Great Coaches/instructors, the knowledge is vast and the patience to teach is unmeasurable! Great people to learn and roll with, everyone understands the importance of technique Over ego. I've yet to have a bad day/moment here! Id highly recommend this place to any and all!
...The instruction is top notch, friendly, and most of all, patient and kind. You will learn here, and every day you're not in class you'll be wishing you were...
Great gym! The atmosphere is warm and friendly. Professor Brett is knowledgeable and a great instructor...
"...The coaches are not only incredibly skilled, but also serve as positive role models and mentors. They uphold strong moral values and ethics, creating a supportive and respectful environment for all students..."
"...An excellent place to train for beginners seeking a solid foundation for their jiu-jitsu or for more advanced students who want a coach who will focus on specific aspects of their game and are looking to join a tight-knit group of fellow BJJ enthusiasts."
"Professor Brett was a wonderful instructor for our son. He is patient and knowledgeable."
No, you do not. You don't need experience, nor do you need to be in great shape. Our beginner's program is suitable for anyone.
Beginner curriculum is taught entirely with No Gi style instruction. This helps ensure that the focus of class is self-defense. It also takes the financial burden of purchasing a gi right away out of the picture.
We want to remove as many hurdles as possible to get you training as soon as you want to start training. We do require athletic-style or workout clothing with no zippers for the safety of students and the longevity of our mats.
If you want to or feel more comfortable wearing a gi during beginner class, it is permitted, we just don’t use it as a tool in the teaching of our techniques during beginner class.
Intermediate and advanced classes will be the instructor’s choice so it is best to dress for gi with a no gi top underneath the gi jacket so we can freely switch between gi and no gi.
Competition class will be both gi and no gi. If you are invited to train with the competition group, we expect you to have both readily available.
Generally speaking, three hours a week is the minimum to make progression at a reasonable rate. This can be class instruction or open mats. Two hours will make progress, but it will be slower.
No, never. We don't believe in contracts, forcing monthly memberships, or charging you for promotions. We're up front with any costs.
At Lionheart Jiu Jitsu, we are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where diversity is celebrated, and everyone feels respected, valued, and supported. We believe that inclusiveness is essential for personal growth, innovation, and a thriving community. This creates a sense of belonging for everyone, regardless of their background, identity, or experiences.
In other words: everyone is welcome.
Yes. Private Lessons are available, but availability varies depending on the Professor’s schedule. Please inquire about private lessons directly from Professor Brett.
We only offer 13+ year old programs at this time. As we expand and move to a larger facility we will offer kid's programs. However, at the moment, we've chosen to focus on teen and adult Jiu Jitsu.
If you have a special circumstance or an older child who can train with teens or adults, please reach out.
Absolutely! At the beginning of a student's journey though we believe it should revolve almost entirely around self-defense. Once the student learns our basic curriculum and feels ready to move into the intermediate classes, the fancier and more sport-
focused jiu jitsu techniques start being taught.
We do also have an invite-only competition program with successful competitors actively training and competing.
No, not at all.
We encourage competition if you'd like to do so, but that's your personal decision. It will not hold you back from being ranked up. However, active competition can help you progress much faster.
For beginner classes, no. You can come exactly as you are and get involved. Jiu Jitsu is an excellent source of exercise and has helped many people lose weight and get in better shape.
For intermediate and advanced classes you will need more cardio ability. You'll gain this naturally as you train in the beginner's program and open mat sparring.
For competition classes we do conditioning and it's a very intense class. You will need to be in good shape, and/or have the grit necessary to endure and push yourself.
We do allow them to do positional sparring in beginner's classes, but not full force free sparring right away.
Students will begin fully sparring if desired once they move on to intermediate or all level classes. This is for both their safety, as well as the safety of other students.
Yes!
Some gyms will prevent their members from using leg locks because they can potentially be more dangerous. With the exception of our younger teen students, we believe leg locks should be taught from the very beginning and to the most liberal ruleset a practitioner might find in competition.
